Enrolment
We welcome all children to Hauraki School and, providing space is available, a new student is generally able to start immediately once an enrolment form is completed.
Open Days are held at the school once or twice a year for prospective parents and their children. They are designed to be as informative as possible. Local kindergartens will be provided with the dates of these. Parents, however, are welcome to visit the school at any other time to meet with the Principal and/or enjoy a tour of the school and to see programmes in action.
On enrolment, parents are asked to sign a Code of Conduct that ensures we maintain a safe, respectful and positive school environment.
Children turning five years of age, however, will normally begin school on the first day of a new term or at the beginning of week 5 or 7, whichever is closest following their birthday. To assist with transition to school, two visits for the child and parent(s) normally take place on a Tuesday and Thursday morning during the month before they turn five. A parent meeting to outline school procedures normally takes place on the Thursday as part of the second visit. Children beginning school in February each year will have opportunity for school visits at the end of the preceding year. The parent meeting for these children will normally take place on Teacher-Only Day at the very beginning of the new school year. Dates and times of visits will be provided in writing a few weeks before your child is due to start school.
On enrolment, each student is allocated a House for their entire time at Hauraki: either North, East, West or South, and siblings are in the same House. A house point competition that all students can contribute to is ongoing.
