Enrolment

We welcome all children to Hauraki School and, providing space is available, a new student is generally able to start immediately once an enrolment form is completed.

Open Days are held at the school once or twice a year for prospective parents and their children. They are designed to be as informative as possible. Local kindergartens will be provided with the dates of these. Parents, however, are welcome to visit the school at any other time to meet with the Principal and/or enjoy a tour of the school and to see programmes in action.

On enrolment, parents are asked to sign a Code of Conduct that ensures we maintain a safe, respectful and positive school environment.

Children turning five years of age will normally start school on the first intake date after their fifth birthday.

For Terms 1, 2, and 3, cohort intakes occur at the beginning of Weeks 1, 4, and 7, while Term 4 intakes typically take place in Weeks 1 and 4, depending on roll size.

To assist with a smooth transition, two introductory morning visits for the child and their parents take place on a Tuesday and Thursday in the weeks leading up to their start date, with a parent meeting held on the Thursday visit to outline school routines and procedures.

For children beginning school in Week 1 or Week 4 of Term 1, an extended transition visit is held on the Teacher-Only Day at the end of January, giving students the opportunity to meet their teacher and explore their classroom while parents attend an informative parent session.

Students who start in Week 4 or 7 of each term will also be invited to an additional optional visit, usually on the Thursday before they start school.

Written confirmation of visit dates and times will be sent to families a few weeks before their child is scheduled to begin.

On enrolment, each student is allocated a House for their entire time at Hauraki: either North, East, West or South, and siblings are in the same House. A house point competition that all students can contribute to is ongoing.

Our aim is to make the transition to school a positive one and as smooth as possible.
